Travel
The nearest international airport is [LYS] Lyon Saint Exupéry although [GVA] Geneva airport might be of some interest too.
From LYS, you can of course take a taxi, a train, rent a car, but to our knowledge the best solution is a special bus called Satobus. Timetables for Grenoble can be found on the LYS airport web site in the Access and parking section (choose bus in the menu, then Grenoble as destination). A lot of other useful information can be found there, like the current weather.
Grenoble has a nice public transportation system with trams and buses, which is even getting bigger at the moment with new lines being built. We would really recommend not renting a car if you do not plan to travel around, since this construction work makes driving and parking in town quite painful.
Conference venue
The conference will take place at the Château de Sassenage
The meeting point for MIPS 2004 (17th, 18th, 19th) is the central bus station, located just beside the train station, and called "gare routiere" (top left corner of the map). Note that if you came to Grenoble by plane and took the Satobus from the Saint Exupéry airport, you necessarily arrived at this central bus station. A MIPS organizer will wait for you in front of the main entrance of the building. Then, at 8.30am exactly, a MIPS special bus will bring you directly to the Château de Sassenage.
If you are late and miss the MIPS special bus, the best solution is to take a taxi to the Château de Sassenage (using public transportation, while feasible, is perhaps a bit complex). You'll find taxis in front of the railway station.
Grenoble's Tourist Office where you can find information and maps, or local versions [lowres 72dpi, hires 300dpi, streets].
Tutorials venue
The tutorials (16th) will take place at the MJK, Maison Jean Kuntzmann which is located on the campus of St Martin d'Heres.
The easiest way to get there is to take the tramway B, direction "Université", final stop. There are many stops downtown, in particular in front of Grenoble's railway station. You can by tickets at the automatic machines you will find at each stop.
Here are two maps [PDF (easily zoomable), GIF], taken from the "how to get there" page of IMAG (in french).
